“We have seen a 75% increase in PPO offers compared to last year and are sure about the rise in total offers for the upcoming cycle,” said Mithun Radhakrishna, head, Career Development Services, IIT-Gandhinagar, where MathWorks, Salesforce, Adobe and Ford are among those making PPOs for the first time. Many organisations prefer this as it helps them gauge students more thoroughly, over longer periods and in real work situations.įor the budding engineers, acceptance of PPOs means a job in hand even before the placement season begins. The PPO route - where companies make offers based on the performance of candidates who have interned with them - has been gaining popularity over the past few years. The IT sector is leading in making offers, followed by the core industries, said Anishya Madan, head, Office of Career Services. IIT-Delhi received 150 offers till August 18, compared with 230 in the whole of last year. The highest PPO so far is about Rs 91.2 lakh and the institute has received 203 offers, from the likes of DE Shaw, Oracle, BNY Mellon,Īxis Bank and Flipkart.
IIT-BHU said on the basis of the PPO offers received so far, there had been growth in the hiring trends of IT/ software and other industries. The highest offer is Rs 1.2 crore, and Providence, DevRev, Winzo, John Deere and Salesforce have made PPOs for the first time. “We expect more PPOs to come in soon many companies are moving to a PPO-based hiring model,” he added.Īt IIT-Guwahati, the number of PPOs received till August 19 at 182 had already surpassed last year’s total of 179, said Abhishek Kumar, head of its Centre for Career Development.
“The PPO numbers look promising,” said Sathyan Subbiah, adviser (placements), IIT-Madras, which has seen a 33% jump in PPOs to 213 till Monday, compared with 160 a year earlier. IITs have also traditionally been more insulated from the vagaries of the job market compared with smaller institutes.
Despite concerns around overall IT hiring slowing down, placement sources said campus recruitment still remained a preferred choice for companies because of the cost factor, and also because fresh graduates could be trained in in-demand skills facing a supply crunch. The flow of PPOs will gain steam in September-October and will continue to come in till the final placements begin in December.Īccording to campus placement cells, IT/software, core engineering, finance, analytics and technology sectors are the most bullish ones on PPOs.
